The North Carolina Literary and Historical Association has announced the winners of the 2008 North Carolina Book Awards.
The News & Observer's chief political reporter, Rob Christensen, won The Ragan Old North State Award for Nonfiction for his history, "The Paradox of Tar Heel Politics: The Personalities, Elections, and Events that Shaped Modern North Carolina." (UNC Press)
Daniel Wallace won the The Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction for his novel, "Mr. Sebastian and the Negro Magician."(Doubleday)
The News & Observer's poetry critic, Michael Chitwood, won The Roanoke-Chowan Award for Poetry for his collection, "Spill" (Tupelo Press).
Cathryn Sill won The American Association of University Women Award for Juvenile Literature for "About Habitats: Wetlands" (Peachtree Publishers).
The Awards, which consider works by North Carolina residents, will be presented at a ceremony on Nov. 8 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel. For more information, click here.
