Continuing their effort to educate American readers, the good people of Sweden have once again bestowed the Nobel Prize for Literature on a relatively unknown author. His name is Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio and he has published 40 books — including novels, books for children and essay collections, 12 of which have been translated in to English.
In its citation the Swedish Academy described Le Clezio as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sexual ecstacy, explorer of humanity beyond and below the reigning humanity."
If somebody knows what that means, please let me know. In the meantime, I will try to track down some of his books. I hope they're worthy.

It's very simple, really
Fri, 10/10/2008 - 10:00 — DebrahThe description of Le Clezio's work suggests to readers that with each sensual page the judges are sent into the stratosphere beyond their own human imagination.
The phrase "poetic adventure and sexual ecstacy" suggests that someone critiquing his work is engaged in sublimation to the extreme.
Perhaps using Le Clezio's books as a substitute for a lack of sexual expression with an actual human.
Very curious wording, indeed.
And raises more questions about the judges than the man being judged.
