Weather service issues wind advisory for Wake, Durham counties

Bookmark and Share

The National Weather Service has issued its first advisory for Wake County related to Hurricane Irene.

At about 12:25 today, the weather service issued a wind advisory for a stretch of the eastern Piedmont from Fayetteville to Warrenton, including Wake and Durham counties, effective from 6 a.m. to midnight Saturday.

The advisory means that 20 to 30-mph winds are possible Saturday, with gusts up to 40 mph. Winds that strong can make driving difficult, especially for trucks, and cause power  outages due to downed tree limbs.
