This is a good time to remind everyone: Do not touch a downed power line, or even approach it. If you see a downed line in Wake County, or you have a power outage, you can call Progress Energy at 1-800-419-6356.

If you're in an area served by Duke Energy, call 1-800-POWERON (1-800-769-3766); Spanish-speaking customers should call 1-866-4APAGON (1-866-427-2466). You can get the latest information on outages on this updating map of Progress Energy outages or this Duke Energy page.

For gas leak emergencies call 911. For non-emergency questions about natural gas service, try PSNC at 1-877-776-2427.
