Meeker to Pittsburgh Mayor: Let's bet

Bookmark and Share

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker said today he's ready to make a bet with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl about the outcome of the Eastern Conference finals meeting between the Hurricanes and the Penguins.

"We're trying to get a bet going with the mayor of Pittsburgh," Meeker said. "We're going to try and do it on Monday."

As for what Meeker plans to offer should the Canes lose, think barbeque and beer.

"We're trying to clear it, but barbeque from The Pit and beer from Big Boss," Meeker said.

(UPDATE: The city announced today that Meeker will place the bet at 1:30 p.m. Monday and that he will wager 10 pounds of The Pit’s chopped barbecue and a case of Big Boss beer. No word on what brew. Mayor Ravenstahl will disclose his city’s offerings during Monday’s telephone conversation.)

In offering 'cue and beer Meeker is sticking to an approach that has been successful in the past.

During the Canes 2006 run to the Stanley Cup Meeker wagered three pounds of 'cue with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. Brown ended up sending Meeker three pounds of Buffalo wings.

Before the Stanley Cup finals against Edmonton, Meeker put up a case of Holly Springs-brewed Carolina Pale Ale. Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandell ended up sending Meeker a case of Canadian beer from the Maverick Brewery in Alberta.

You will find a vigorous dissenting opinion about National Grammar Day at Language Log. I agree that the study of English and its structure and variations is much more interesting than the memorization and enforcement of schoolroom grammar.

That's awesome that, in one of these cities, there's going to be a food bank where a hungry family can get some beers to go with their food!

Offended??

Offended? No way, kinda funny actually. Well, since we already gave you folks Bill Cowher, maybe you can send us one of your ex-most successful coaches? Not sure who that'd be but we'll consider him.

Food wise, we'll have to send you a bunch of Primanti Sandwiches & some Ahron City! After a few brews, it'll start tasting good! :)

Jeez

I still can't believe I got Philly mixed up with Pittsburgh. Wow, I'm all blown out. My apologies to any fan of any city that I offended. I'll leave it up to the offended to see whom I offended.

Do I have a chance to take

Do I have a chance to take that back then? lol. That goes to show me to not post cutesy things that only I think are funny.

RavenJordanStaal

Before a Ravens/Steelers game last season Mayor Ravenstahl made a big thing about pretending to change his name to Steelerstahl. Maybe he now needs to be Ravensjordanstaal to avoid any potential confusion.

Let's bet something that matters.

Let's make this interesting rather than the same old boring food thing:

1) Bet the rights to Andy Griffith for the rights to Rocky. Philly can be referred to as Mayberry for awhile.

2) Or $10 million dollars to help Bev balance the budget.

Wow, dude

Mixing up Pittsburgh and Philly is really, really sad.

What does Pittsburgh have to do with Rocky?

The Pens are from Pittsburgh, not Philadelphia.

MMMMMM

Bad Penny is tasty.
