WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Watching the school board candidate forums

Bookmark and Share

If you haven't yet done so, you can watch the recent Wake County school board candidate forums that were sponsored by WakeUP Wake County and the League of Women Voters of Wake County.

The N.C. Center for Voter Education recorded the candidate forums and have posted them online. The one exception is District 4, where Venita Peyton's boycott of the forum meant only Keith Sutton was in attendance.

Ma Weathers

Mary Ann "Ma" Weathers in District 6 is worth watching.  She looks like Paula Deen but sounds like Mad Maxine Waters on steroids when she starts ranting.   A lot of boiling anger in that ol' gal.

Speaking of "boiling water"..

that would be you AgentPierce whenever Keung Hui posts a news piece that is even remotely negative with regard to Ronnie M, Heather Losurdo and the Tea Party.

Paula, "Independent, Fair & Speaking Up for MY Kids."

SLOW NEWS DAY?

Must be really slow out there to be posting these re-runs. How about posting links to the WRAL candidate videos? It's stunning to watch Martin and Kushner who everyone says are the smartest two people in the world actually have to read their opening statements. In the Q&A Kushner has a huge stack of notes in her lap that she constantly has to look down and read from to answer questions. I find it odd that those two haven't posted these performances on any of their websites. Maybe I just missed it.

Kushner's answers

At least Kushner did some research and has answers, and questions the status quo.  Williams sounds like The Republican Machine.   So glad to learn Williams believes children are our future.

IS THAT YOUR BEST?

Oh Kushner did research? I guess she just needed notes to remind her what she researched. According to all your past blogs she knows it all already, what more research is there that needs to be done? You've said she's gone to every committee meeting there is so she should be the expert without notes. Can't you just once admit that your candidate tanked it? Kushner looked like a deer in the headlights while Williams spoke directly into the camera with no notes and told it like it is, but to you that's just some machine. Your girl lost that round, how about just admitting it and let's move on. Why don't you address the opening statement where Kushner had to read that too? She was horrible, do you really want to go on and on about this or like her, maybe you should have just let it go by the wayside.

In other news, Williams says

In other news, Williams says "Teach them well and let them lead the way".

Whitney Houston?

C'mon you can do better than that. If Kushner is so smart why all the notes and papers?
