The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system as it prepares to undergo historic changes. Will the new school board scrap the diversity policy in favor of neighborhood schools? Will year-round schools be converted back to a traditional calendar? How will the new board respond to growth and the school construction program?
WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

What About the Calendar Options that ARE Posted?
Fri, 11/21/2008 - 07:01 — ForCryingOutLoudAre the calendar options that are posted completely irrelevant? Or if they make sense, are they correct?
For example, my node's base schools are Baucom Elem and Salem Middle. The draft plan says our calendar options are Penny Road Elem and Apex Middle.
Obviously, Penny Road is wrong, since Baucom & Penny Road are both going to be tradtional next year.
People are counting on Apex Middle being the "right" choice, however. Is it?
With many nodes out in Apex going from Traditional elementary to YR middle to traditional high school, that traditional middle school is going to play a HUGE role. And if we don't know what the option really is, how can we comment on it?
Any in-the-know feedback would be great.
Thanks.
Ignore the listed calendar
