WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Wake Democrats launch MovingForward.com website

Bookmark and Share

The Wake County Democratic Party launched a new website today as part of its efforts to win school board and municipal races this fall.

In a press release today, party officials say MovingWakeForward.com "is aimed at providing the latest information for voters, activists and media who are interested in learning more about the 2011 election."

The website is also described "as the home for leaders in Wake County, and North Carolina, to speak out on the issues that matter to them ahead of October 11 and November 8." In this case, the first two posts up attack the Republican majority on the Wake County school board.

"The current School Board Majority threatens our economic and civic future with misguided policies that will turn back the clock on our region's prosperity in what I fear, in a significant way," writes Kei Landis, who has advised both Gov. Perdue and Gov. Easley, in an op-ed piece on the site. "As our economy continues to struggle, the timing of this threat could not be more critical. It is time for a change here on the Wake County School Board."

The website also includes an op-ed piece from J.B. Buxton, Easley's former education advisor.

"It has been two years since a new Board Majority took over the Wake County School Board," Buxton writes. "Unfortunately, when families in Wake County’s public schools ask themselves if their children are better off than they were two years ago, the answer is a clear and resounding no."

Why don't they just call themselves

MoveOn2

providing the latest information for voters, activists and media

"..... for voters, activists and media."

Aren't those last two (activists and media) one and the same?
