Amid the likely media circus today, the Wake County school board does have business to conduct.
During the work session, staff will discuss the proposed student assignment plan timeline and likely get last-minute feedback before unveiling the plan on Nov. 13. The board is scheduled to adopt the timeline during the regular meeting.
Also today, the board will vote on which grades to offer at the CTE high school.
While all this is going on, one question will be whether school board members Debra Goldman and Chris Malone both show up today. The other board members will be asked by the media about that issue and the complaint about vice chairman Keith Sutton that Goldman made to police.
There will also likely be some comments by the public during the meeting.

Comments
There was public comment before the canning of the Choice Plan
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 09:43 — realisticThe public comment was at every board meeting from the time it was designed. Parents who had never attended a board meeting spoke at almost every one. It was a disaster from the word "choice". Even with more than 90% of the students choosing to stay in their current school, the transportation costs escalated beyond prediction - or should I say, escalated beyond acknowledgement by the Superintendent until the realities played out. WCPSS will be in clean up mode for this one year hiccup for at least 5 more years, until all the K choosers matriculate out of the elementary schools they were placed in. The audit will be an eye-popper.
No...
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 13:02 — Bob_SconceThat's a bit silly. Parents complained constantly about the previous assignment scheme -- does that mean that the board should have ignored parent input in the choice plan?
The board needs to be deliberate aboult soliciting public feedback from ALL people affected by the plan changes, not just those in the areas near new schools. A Nov. 13th introduction for a plan they hope to vote on in December? Sounds like the board majority is trying to rush through its plansw in the aftermath of the election, when nobody is noticing.
So amid the circus today Mr. Hui
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 07:26 — FSandYOUhow about asking them when they plan to have the community meetings for "citizen input" regarding their ***NEW*** Plan???
Oh that's right, this board has decided to forego having ANY community input this time around haven't they.
We've gone from having a say, a choice, some input, to being shut out completely by this board.
Wonder how the "majority" of parents now feel about that?
I'll get into it in a later
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 16:22 — KeungHui (author)I'll get into it in a later post but the plan is to have multiple hearings. Staff wanted to keep it confined to northeastern Wake since that's where the reassignments will happen, but board members want at least one hearing elsewhere in the county in case people have questions about how the new stay where you start, capping and base decleration period would work. No dates will be set tonight but staff tossed out a list of possible options for various nights in November and early December.
Hearings? Will someone be on trial?
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 16:55 — FSandYOUOh that's right, the parents and children of the wcpss will once again be the ones on trial.
So they've decided that N.Eastern Wake families will take the 'first hit' for the team during phase one of their
massive reassignment - everything back to the way it was NEW Plan.
Wonder how the N.East Wake families feel about that? Bet they'll let Kevin and gang hear all about it at the upcoming
trialhearings. It won't matter. It will be
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 20:37 — jenmanIt won't matter. It will be a pointless endeavor because once again, Kevin will not bring any suggestions from parents to the table.

Tue, 10/30/2012 - 20:48 — SideburnsHere's my understanding from what I just watched...
The 2013-14 bridge plan will address "hot spots" (defined as overcrowding - but not all overcrowding - because some overcrowding is OK as a base assignment plan doesn't address overcrowding as well as the choice plan) for next year. Then, as a result of base declarations, grandfathering and calendar options, new "hot spots" will be created next year (again, due to the uncontrollable overcrowding). Then, the 2014-15 will address those new "hot spots". Capping - both full cap and partial cap - will be implemented in 2014-15 to better control capacity after purposefully overcrowding some schools.
And this doesn't even incorporate diversity busing yet.
I haven't had it in me to
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 23:30 — jenmanI haven't had it in me to watch the work session or meeting yet. Maybe tomorrow. Halloween would be fitting.
There are supposed to be
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 08:58 — KeungHui (author)There are supposed to be meetings in the areas where the bases are being drawn up for the four schools. I don't know why you'd say that there will be no meetings.
I COULD ANSWER THAT...
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 15:43 — ClearThinker...but you would delete it. Suffice it to say, the reasons are numerous!
Kind of what I thought
Tue, 10/30/2012 - 16:56 — FSandYOUToo numerous to mention.
