WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Wake County school board members Debra Goldman and John Tedesco heading for runoff elections for statewide office

Bookmark and Share

Barring some last-minute changes, Wake County school board members Debra Goldman and John Tedesco are still in the running for statewide higher office.

With 79 of 100 counties reporting, Goldman is in first for the Republican nomination for state auditor with 34.32 percent of the vote. Unless she gets 40 percent, she'll head into a runoff election.

Also with 79 of 100 counties reporting, Tedesco is leading for the Republican nomination for state schools superintendent with 28.38 percent of the vote, He's also apparently heading into a runoff.

Whether the runoff is in June or July depends on if there's a runoff for U.S. House seats.

Their fellow Republican school board member Chris Malone won his primary for the state House 35 seat.

State of Republicans

For these folks to be in the running for statewide office speaks volumes about the sad state of quality of the R candidates.  These three are a mess.  I'm not sure what universe John T. is living in that he considers himself qualified to be superintendent of instruction for our state, and someone with no accounting background running for state auditor?  What a joke.  The delusions in evidence here just shows the mentality that went into the running of our school system these past few years.  I can't wait until they're gone from WCPSS and no longer in a position of influence (to harm) any of our kids.

Goldman is Dishonest

Greg Dority is by far the best choice for Auditor in this run off. Debra Goldman can not even be trusted with her own family's money. The Raleigh News and Observer reported that her "family situation keeps getting messier." In the same article, her husband claims "she's secreting and diverting” money from the couple’s joint accounts, causing them to fall into negative balances." Is this the kind of person we want representing the Republican Party in November? Someone who secrets and diverts money from her own family? I say hell no! Goldman is dangerous. in the words of my mother,

"shame on you".
