WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Wake County high schools on accredited under advisement status through June 30

Bookmark and Share

This arguably could be classified as being a glass is half full or half empty situation.

In this Jan. 9 letter, AdvancED is telling the Wake County school system that the high schools will remain on "accredited under advisement" status through June 30. It's not full accreditation, which is one step up, but it's not being dropped down a step to "accreditation warned."

AdvancED wants Wake to report back by May 31 on how its conducting the superintendent search, implementing a new student assignment plan and reviewing its policies. They also want to hear if relations on the board are improving.

“The school system is asked to share continued efforts being made by its Board of Education to move beyond the conflicts of the immediate past and the ability of the Board to focus on the needs and best interests of the students of Wake County,” wrote Mark Elgart, president of AdvancED, to the school system in the Jan. 9 letter.

Keung, did AdvancED come do

Keung, did AdvancED come do interviews this time?

I'll get into it more in

I'll get into it more in tomorrow's post, but they didn't come for a site visit before issuing this letter.

This board continues to fail our children

Evans and Martin have had control for over a year and here we are still with accreditation issues.

Is Mark Elgart serious, "want to hear if relations on the board are improving."

How could they not Mark, with their soon-to-be 7-2 (the public is screwed) majority, it shouldn't be long before they are skipping stones and through fields of daisies together.

...

Yeah, what a piece of fluff letter. After looking under every rock and lining people up for interviews (including Evans, Martin, & Brannon) when the Rs were in charge, now Elgart doesn't even bother to visit. If there was ever any question about the political slant of AdvancED, that's been cleared up.

There was never a question

There was never a question of the bias... and even if AdvancED did legitimately investigate the nonsense that is the board majority of "We'll kick your a__" Sutton, Kushner, Hill, Martin and the that crazy Evans lady, it's still a bogus out-of-state organization that offers nothing of value to education.
