While the Wake GOP was “disappointed” in Tuesday’s election results, the Wake County Democratic Party says the school board election and school bond results made it a “good night.”
In an email this evening to fellow Democrats, Wake County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Blue III declares that “voters have emphatically rejected the policies and views that hijacked our education system and currently threaten our state.” With the victory by all three Democratic school board candidates and the defeat of GOP school board member Deborah Prickett, Blue says “we have replaced the last of the Tea Party devotees on the school board with sensible, reasonable voices.”
On the passage of the school bonds, which the Wake Democrats endorsed, Blue says “voters have shown their commitment to public education and good governance.”
Here’s Blue’s email message:
Last night was a good night for Wake County. Voters have emphatically rejected the policies and views that hijacked our education system and currently threaten our state. With a clean sweep for our Board of Education candidates, we have replaced the last of the Tea Party devotees on the school board with sensible, reasonable voices. By approving the school bond, voters have shown their commitment to public education and good governance. By approving the transportation bond, voters in Raleigh have voted to maintain a quality transportation system.
We won in all but two of our races, and I want to take a moment to thank our exceptional district coordinators, committed precinct officers and volunteers. You made calls, distributed signs, volunteered at early voting sites, adopted orphan districts and precincts, worked as poll greeters, provided rides to to the polls and canvassed neighborhoods. I am very grateful for all your hard work.
We still need your help. The November 5th Election is less than 30 days away. Let's continue to work to elect our endorsed candidates. Let's continue to recruit and expand our volunteer base in Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon. Let's get ready for 2014. Sign up to volunteer.
We have momentum... let's put it to good use.
Dan Blue III, Chair
Wake County Democratic Party
