WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Wake Citizens For Good Government's TV ad

See for yourself the new TV ad that's been making some waves in the school board campaign.

(Once again, thank you to Ben Niolet for his technical help in posting the video online.)

Who are the morons (yes

Who are the morons (yes morons) that put that out? What a farce. When you have nothing positive to say about yourselves, you attack and lie about your opponents. Status quo is really grasping now. Resorting to dirty politics can only bring negative consequences. Poor taste by an uninformed organization. Boing Boing Boing all the way to the bottom for this loony group.

Only one "moron" Democratic

Only one "moron" Democratic pollster, Dean Debnam, owner of Public Policy Polling. He has done polling for his "internal use." It is rather obvious what the results were based on the desperate nature of the ad that only the most ill-informed and uneducated voter would ever believe.

If all the people who value education and want a quality education for all students in Wake County get out to vote on Tuesday, October, 6, the status quo will be history.

Bill Randall: Diversity & Goldman 4 School Board

Bill Randall has lived in

Bill Randall has lived in Wake County less than a year and has already run for State GOP Chair.  He has no sense of history of what has happend here, and is not particualarly rational.  He has all the answers and seems more interested in being recognized and followed than working with the community to find solutions.

tit for tat

Keung, Now that your technical team has discovered this new capability of posting videos to play, like YouTube, do you plan to post the YouTube video which WRAL used as the basis for their report at the beginning of this campaign?

Could you be a bit more

Could you be a bit more specific please?

my guess?

Yes, and sorry Keung

It was mync.com not WRAL.

Negative ads can backfire, ask Liddy Dole

Sensationalizing, polarizing, stereotyping. Voters will avoid candidates with negative ads. Check in with former US Senator Elizabeth Dole on that topic.

And the latest poll says?

many voters will now vote against the status quo candidates on Tuesday because they are sick and tired and fed up with people who think playing political games is acceptable in the education of our children!

????...but, the only

????...but, the only candidates asking for more money, therefore increased property taxes, are Nixon, Simon and Rakestraw; and CMS schools have nothing to do with what the candidates for change are proposing. Politics is an alternate universe where facts, logic, and integrity have no value.

Odd Commercial Strategically

In low turnout races such as these, is it really smart to boost the name recognition of the candidates you DON'T suppport without even mentioning the ones you want the voter to select?

I agree Charlie.  I wish

I agree Charlie.  I wish they hadn't done it.
