WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Trying to finish up high schools

Bookmark and Share

The high school moves may be wrapped up tonight.

Kevin Hill, vice chairman of the board, juggled his schedule to attend tonight to discuss the high school changes. He's not going to be here tomorrow due to a prior conflict.

If Hill couldn't attend tonight, the board might have held off until Thursday on the remaining high school review.

With the possible Lacy discussions, who knows if they'll get through with high schools today.

For now, nodes 107 and 441.3 make up a majority of tonight's speakers for the public hearing.

The Node 107 people are slated to go from Lacy Elementary to Root Elementary. They're here because the year of the move was changed from 2010 to 2009.

The Node 441.3 people would go from Carnage Middle to Dillard Drive Middle. The change is being moved up from 2010 to 2009 at the request of parents.

UPDATE

Due to the large crowd, the work session has been moved from the conference room to the main board room. There's still plenty of seats left.

Yes. The board agreed to leave in the staff change to move it to 2009.

367.1

Am I correct in my interpretation of today's reassignment update that rising 9th graders in 367.1 (the North Harrison Avenue "neverland") are going to Cary High School in Aug 2009 instead of going to Panther Creek and THEN getting switched to Cary High?
