WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Tedesco's runoff campaign report

Bookmark and Share

School board candidate John Tedesco has overtaken Cathy Truitt for the fundraising lead in District 2.

In this campaign report received today, Tedesco reported having raised $20,065.96 as of Oct. 19. Through that same time period, Truitt had reported raising $19,425.31.

Tedesco also has a lot more money than Truitt available for spending in the final week. He reported having spent $12,936.07 and having $6,100.40 on hand.

Tedesco's biggest new donor is conservative businessman Robert Luddy, who gave $4.000.

Tedesco also got money from new school board member Deborah Prickett, state Sen. Richard Stevens, County Commissioner Paul Coble, Garner Town Alderman Phillip Matthews and former County Commissioner Gary Pendleton.

Tedesco got another $2,250 from the Wake Schools Community Alliance, bringing up the group's donation to $4,950.

Other PAC money came from Take Wake schools Back, former County Commissioner Phil Jeffreys, state Rep. Paul Stam and the N.C. Indian-American PAC. Jeffreys had also given money to Truit.

Kudos

Over $6000 left? Wow. I'm really impressed with John that he was so fiscally conservative. He didn't have an expensive political advisor, he got someone to do his photos and his website for free. These are all expenses that Dr. Truitt spent hard earned supporters dollars on. John had his signs stolen several times - big ones off his truck. Not as expensive as Dr. Truitt's wood framed, mounted, moulded with the finals, but still hard to replace just when the parade is starting. He went and borrowed his own signs back from the highway so he could have something for the parade. He has kept on chugging forward, and he still is chugging forward. I don't know how that guy is still on his feet.

This shows how he will fight for our kids - for all kids.

Wake County - ALL of Wake County - we need to fight for him now.

Why does Truitt need any money

in the final week, I thought she quit?????????????

Are her signs still up?

Someone told me today that they were.
