WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Susan Evans has raised more than $37,000 in campaign contributions

Bookmark and Share

Wake County school board candidate Susan Evans has reported raising $37,524.69 as of Sept. 26 with $21,770.23 on hand.

Evans' newest campaign report filed Friday shows she's still trailing school board chairman Ron Margiotta, who had already raised more than $40,000 by the end of August. But the gap might not be that big a deal considering how outside groups like Common Sense Matters and the N.C. Futures Action Fund are sending out mailers aiding her cause.

The biggest donors in Evans' latest report are the $3,000 from Capitol Broadcasting CEO Jim Goodmon and $2,000 from Lettice Rhodes.

Some other potential familiar donors in this new report include former school board candidate Rita Rakestraw's campaign committee, the Wake Citizens for Good Government PAC and retired Wake principal Gail Turner.

Evans has paid Perry Woods $8,200 for consulting and other campaign services in the District 8 race.

Evans again

Interesting...

You'd think she would remember going inactive seven years ago.

Negativity and shameless pundits at work..

Woodstock, FSandYou and AgentPierce, your outrageous hyperbole is entertaining at best and slanderous at worst. Your attempts at derailing folks in such an outrageous manner is simply a turnoff for those of us that are on the fence in many respects when it comes to whom to support for positions on the school board. You have made it clear repeatedly that you want a board that consists ONLY of GOP or Tea Party oriented members. It is not necessary to repeatedly impose your slander on the rest of us - we know very well what you think. We can discuss or debate issues, but your negative soundbites that simply denigrate folks, rather than actually debate issues, are excessive to put it mildly.

fyi... don't care what you

fyi... don't care what you think.

A vote for Evans is a vote

A vote for Evans is a vote to return to the failed and burdensome forced-busing and social-engineering policies of the past. She has made this point repeatedly in her usual condescending and arrogant manner during the public comment period at meeting after meeting. That Perry Woods never tackled her and taped her mouth shut when she repeatedly made these idiotic and wildly unpopular remarks is all you need to know about his political savvy... or lack thereof.

But the amount of money she is spending on YouTube

should assure her the win. And then Apex, and the rest, will be able to say they made a change. Problem for them will be, like many of the rest of us, they won't like the change(s) once they start occurring and they certainly won't like the fact that we'll still have no assignment plan, no one will know where their children will be going to school, will be more divided than ever and they absolutely won't like the urgency they'll then have to sell their homes and run.

You go D8, Susan Evans has all the answers for you. Let us know how that works out in 2 years.

I also predict turnout will be 1/2 of what it was last time. Very few are paying attention and most of them don't care. Pathetic.

There isn't enough money to

There isn't enough money to convince folks to vote for Evans. Have no fear Margiotta will win.

As much as I'd like to have no fear

I have every belief that he's done. And those who allow it to happen deserve nothing less than what they're about to get.

Fortunately, you are

Fortunately, you are wrong... on both accounts.

That darn Perry

That madscamp Perry Woods certainly has been a busy bee, hasn't he.  I bet Nancy McFarlane is his "mother ship" client.  What do you think TKH?

Always good to see Jimmy G being so generous to the left-side.  Wonder how thats affecting his WRAL viewership?  I understand there are LOTS of changes going on over there for "undisclosed reasons". ?????

I thought only "eeevil rich Repubs" tried to "buy elections".  How did I get that idea?
