WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

State closes investigation of complaint against WSCA

Bookmark and Share

The state Board of Elections has wrapped up its investigation of the Wake Schools Community Alliance's late mid-year campaign finance report.

The state Board says the WSCA did violate state statutes by not filing the mid-year report on time. But no action will be taken against the WSCA because of bad information given to the group from the Wake County Board of Elections.

When I left yesterday, they

When I left yesterday, they were still standing by moving Dist. 1 to Monday. Rita is unavailable then due to a prior engagement. They sent me an e-mail today at 2:45 saying Malone was going to be there today and it was on for then. I didn't see e-mail until after 4:00 pm. By that point it was too late.

If they had stuck to orginal schedule, she would have been there. This one is on WPTF I'm afraid.

As to missing the Phil Jeffries forum with all of ten people there outside of her district, It was a better use of her time to talk with voters in her district.

You can go to Wake Ed Partnership site and see her debate Malone and Vair at that forum. I don't believe you live in the district, and your mind is made up, but I will work to get an answer to any question you have.

You can do better than that

Apparently Bill, show producers, station, Curits Media, didn't care if Rita was available or not.  Monday or today the event was on, should've been a priority and Mr. Malone seemed to be in tune to it.

What does your getting an email late have to do with Rita being competent enough to oversee the priorities on her schedule?  Guess this wasn't one of them.  Can she not, like Lois, move w/o your steering the boat?  No way I'd vote for someone who can't keep up any better than that and expect they'd do anything different when it comes to making critical decisions for my children.  If they were to get elected, is the plan to have you run their calendars then as well?

Thankfully I'm not in her district, but we have our own status quo issue.  Hopefully he will be enjoying his last days on the board this time next week!

Big ole non-story from the start

Right Whaler!

Hey, I know we said we weren't going to engage, but I HAVE to ask, you knew early this week that if today didn't get moved Rita was due to debate Chris on your boy Bill's show.  So why didn't she show?  Is she underground like we've heard or was she just afraid of having to answer 12 minutes worth of questions?  Or, was she afraid her car would get broken into?
