Normally, the Wake County school board approves principal appointments unanimously.
But tonight, the board voted 6-2 on the entire list of administrative appointments presented to them. School board vice chairman John Tedesco and board member Debra Goldman didn't specify which one(s) they opposed.
Here's the list:
Teresa Abron was appointed interim principal of Durant Road Middle School with a salary equivalent to $118,164.80 a year. She used to be principal of Dillard Drive Middle, Fox Road Elementary and Lincoln Heights Elementary.
Ramey Beavers was named interim principal of the Wake Early College of Health and Sciences with a salary equivalent to $119,307.84 a year. He was principal of West Lake Middle and Cary High and used to be in charge of student assignment.
Robert Bendel was named principal of Jones Dairy Elementary School with a salary of $88,221.12. He's currently a senior administrator in Wake's Human Resources Department and used to be principal of Royal Elementary School in Franklin County.
Thomas Dixon's contract as interim principal at Middle Creek High was extended. He's led the school since October and his salary is equivalent to $131,580 a year.
Edward Gainor's contract as interim principal of Brassfield Elementary was also extended. He's led the school since October and his salary is equivalent to $105,490.16 a year.

Salary doubletalk
Wed, 11/23/2011 - 00:43 — jnorrisSalaries are "equivalent to" some figure per year? They either are or are not a given amount: Equivalency is not a possibility.
Perhaps the writer intends to suggest that these principals are employed on contracts of less than 12 months, or that their appointment may be for less than a year. In that case, there's a simpler and more informative way:
"Her salary is (some amount) per month, or (some amount x 12) a year".
Or perhaps he doesn't mean that at all, in which case talk of equivalence is noise without content, and more explanation is required. Clear writing flows from clear thought.

So, in Abron's case, she would receive $118,164 if she stayed the whole year. But she should only be there until a permanent principal is named. Interim principals usually get the job because the regular principal got a new job or hat to take a leave of absence. Interim principals tend to be veteran retired principals who can come in to fill a vacancy.
I used different wording in Bendel's case because he is expected to be a permanent hire and get his salary of $88.221.

The principal who was appointed just has a salary listed.
