Some Wake County school board members back barring the Rev. William Barber from being on school property following his arrest at the June 15 board meeting.
School staff have placed trespassing notices on the three activists who were arrested for disrupting the March 23 board meeting. But the case of Barber and the other three people who were arrested for disrupting the June 15 meeting is still under review.
School board member Chris Malone said Barber, head of the state NAACP, should be trespassed for his actions on June 15. The four activists refused to give up the podium and then occupied the seats of the board members when they left the room.
"Somebody has to say to Rev. Barber there are consequences," Malone said. "There are lines that you do not cross."
It looks like the decision will rest on Russ Smith, Wake's senior director of security.
School board chairman Ron Margiotta said he's talked with Smith about Barber but is leaving the decision up to him. But Margiotta said the district need to be consistent in how they respond to arrests - an unofficial way of saying Barber should be trespassed like the March people.
With the mass protest looming on July 20, it's an issue that the school district would probably want to resolve before then.
No explanation was given Wednesday by staff on why Barber's case is still under review.

If they barred the protesters in March...which in my opinion was NOTHING in comparison to what Barber, Tyson and Petty did. They should NEVER be aloud to set foot on WCPSS property. Simple as that.

Just imagine Joe or Jane Everyperson doing that. The security would not have been so kind as they were to Barber, Tyson and Petty and I can tell you for sure, they would have spent the night behind bars ...which these three did not. These troublemakers are not special and should not be granted special consideration.
