The Wake County school board's policy committee will resume discussion today of changes to the student assignment policy.
The first meeting two weeks ago was more of a warmup with the board members present sharing their views on the assignment policy and the use of socioeconomic diversity. They're supposed to begin diving into Policy 6200 today.
But that's not the only issue on today's policy committee agenda.
In particular, the committee will talk about changes to the dates and times of board meetings.
As Ann Majestic, the school board's attorney, noted at last week's committee of the whole meeting, it's not uncommon for new board members to have conflicts with the previously adopted meeting schedule.
In particular, new school board member John Tedesco told his colleagues that he has problems with meeting on the third Tuesdays of the month. The board has regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays.
Tedesco's concerns were met with snorts from some people who attended the COW meeting. Critcs of the new board have accounted for most of the audience at the meetings.
Once Tedesco raisd his concerns, the old board members said they'd have problems changing the days. School board member Kevin Hill said he built his schedule for this school year around the regular meetings being on the first and third Tuesdays.
School board member Anne McLaurin said she'd have a problem if the regular meetings were changed to Wednesdays.
Today's meeting will start at 9:15 a.m. in the board conference room, 3600 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh.
