It looks like Wake County Superintendent Tony Tata could be out of a job this afternoon.
All four Republican board members voted to add the personnel item to the agenda after opposing it yesterday. Republicans said they still opposed what would be voted on.
"We need to get this out of closed session and share with the public what is happening," said GOP board member Debra Goldman, before the unanimous vote to amenda the agenda.
Democrats rejected a motion from Goldman to add a public comment session to the meeting. The board is now meeting in closed session before returning for a vote.

Wow - absolutely stunned
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 16:56 — srhudson06I knew this board was bad, but I thought they truly cared about our kids. They only care in doing it their way - just like the boards from the past - "go where we tell you, when we tell you".
It will be years before Wake County undoes the damage this board has inflicted in so little time.
With them ideology is first,
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 21:44 — woodstockWith them ideology is first, second and third... then it's partisanship, then maybe the kids... well, specifically identified kids.
If ever....
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 17:20 — Bob_SconcePrediction #1: The bond fails. The majority has shown itself to be untrustworthy.
Prediction #2: The state school board sees 5-10 new applications for Charter Schools in Wake County in the next set.
Prediction #3: The board majority puts all sorts of bizarre changes into the assignment plan and drives away even more parents.
Prediction #4: Repeat.
What could stop it? Jim Martin and Susan Evans could be declared clinically insane and the remaining board members choose their replacements. Unfortunately, you can't just get rid of board members for being arrogant bastards.
I saw four yes votes, then
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 16:52 — danofncI saw four yes votes, then four no votes, and then they went straight into the bookkeeping aspects.
I never saw Hill actually vote to break the tie.
Did I just miss it or did he skip a step?

I Bet The Next Guy They Hire Won't Even...
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 21:25 — JanisTangobe allowed to come to Wake for an interview....we wouldn't want him/her to see what a complete and utter mess this county is and how dysfunctional this school board is now do we!
After all of the vile
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 15:49 — jenmanAfter all of the vile diatribes we've had to listen to from them and their supporters over the past 3 years, the Dems won't even allow a public comment period on this? And with such short notice it's not as if Tata's supporters had time to create a scene so I can't imagine that a public comment session would take that much time out of their busy schedule.
This is just repulsive.
The Democrat Party has built
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 16:48 — woodstockThe Democrat Party has built a brand that you are buying into. But, they are not more tolerant or more fair or more sincere. In fact, I see them as more ruthless because they are granted more leeway by the media as a result if doing such a good job of promoting that deceptive brand. However, I think more and more people are on to them and this may be a year of real change in that respect.
I agree completely.
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 16:35 — Dove314Repulsive, short-sighted, and completely the wrong action to take.
It took this for us to
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 16:49 — woodstockIt took this for us to agree. Do you see now why people resign themselves to partisanship? It is a bloody war out there and you need all the help you can get. There is very little room for compromise when the enemy is so entrenched in their ideology. Notice, not one word from anyone representing the Democrat Party. I know they are not happy about this either -- most people aren't -- but they are afraid to upset the far left-wing of their base which includes GSIW, especially in an election year like this.
Quite the opposite actually
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 17:22 — Dove314We are in agreement in this. But we are still not in agreement in general. I see partisanship as a major contributor to the mess that is WCPSS. I continue to believe that if people had been willing to work together, consider all points of view, and truly put aside their partisanship, whether political or otherwise, to do their best on behalf of the children in Wake County, as Supt Tata led us by example, our schools would be a better place for all. I said it about the Republican majority and you repeatedly called me a member of the partisanship, left-wing fringe. I'm saying the same now about the current Democratic majority and you dare to suggest that partisanship is the answer? I am, as I have always suggested here, just a parent who is saddened but not surprised at just how idiotic elected officials and their patrons behave to the detriment of us all.
I am not saying partisanship
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 17:38 — woodstockI am not saying partisanship is THE answer, I am saying it is an inevitability when political parties continue to support efforts like those of Yevonne Brannon and her loony crew.
Tata's actions were actually an example of what it could be like if people cooperated. He made significant inroads in mending some fences... and where did it get him?
No man's land
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 17:52 — Dove314I once equated being in the middle and willing to work together with "No Man's Land" due to partisanship. He was willing, but, instead of looking where his willingness got him, turn instead and look at what prevented him from being successful.
Oh boy, it is called no
Tue, 09/25/2012 - 18:59 — woodstockOh boy, it is called no man's land for a reason. I am not sure denying certain realities is going to further your cause. Partisanship is a reality and it is very, very difficult to find examples where it was not a factor. So, do you keep hoping that one day maybe it will be otherwise, or do you engage and do the best you can given that you are going to have to deal with partisanship?
