WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Bookmark and Share

The school board had a pretty busy day today.

The board elected Kevin Hill as the new chairman and agreed on a procedure for soliciting applicants to fill Rosa Gill's seat.

The board trimmed $3.3 million out of the budget after getting less than requested from commissioners.

The board approved a new policy that should make it easier for families to request bus service after-school to home daycare providers and relatives.

The board changed the bell schedules for seven schools, including Enloe HIgh.

Also throw in the naming of principals to four schools.

UPDATE

Corrected link to bell schedule story.

Misdirected link

Keung, the links for both the new policy and the bell schedule change direct us to the "Wake Approves School Bus Policy Change" article.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for pointing it out. It looks like the online folks put the wrong link in. I don't have the ability to fix the link on the newspaper's home page. Instead, I've changed the link in this blog post to the other one I wrote.
