WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Quick recap of the press conference

Bookmark and Share

To say that today's press conference was a 180 from Monday's event would be an understatement.

Cathy Truitt said she's endorsing John Tedesco after meeting with him Tuesday night and coming away assured that he won't resegregate the schools.

Truitt is offering to reimburse the county's expenses for the runoff by offering in-kind services as an education consultant to the community.

Truitt offered to serve as Tedesco's education advisor.

Also, the state Board of Elections does have the authority to cancel the runoff. Whether that happens is up to them.

Click here for the online story. I'll have more details about the press conference later.

pity

I am starting to feel sorry for her.

Here's what we need to know

Let's go beyond all of the absurd chaos Mrs. Truitt has caused in D2 for a moment.

Truitt has asked to rescind her request for the runoff. Her name is already on the ballot. Absentee ballots are being cast. I believe the local board of elections is saying they can keep 3 precincts closed and save those dollars, but of the other 18 scheduled with elections, other than school board, they obviously can't close those. She says she'll foot the bill for the expense, could someone get that in writing? She also says she does not regret her decision(s), fyi.

Since we are where we are thanks to her flip flopping, and other assorted reasons, can "by law" the board of elections end this runoff and tell the public it's over, officially announce John the winner and tell people don't bother voting for this one? Is there enough time to get an answer from them before Nov. 3, inform the public and will the State BOE even want to move that fast on this or just let it play out?

Either way, as of this moment, we are still putting out 100's of new signs and 1,000's of new campaign pieces and will not stop until it is "officially" over . All of this additional money is wasted if John is declared the winner before November 3rd., which would be just fine and dandy, but why exactly was it we had to go through this twice and John endure all of this additional cost?

Is Mrs. Truitt going to reimburse John, in addition to voters/the county, for all that was spent to combat her runoff request too?

We can't stop plantin' the

We can't stop plantin' the signs and spreadin' the word.  Who knows what her next move will be.

Did Tedesco accept Truitt's

Did Tedesco accept Truitt's offer to be his "education advisor?"

I am pretty sure I know the answer, but considering the recent unlikley events, I have to ask.

She knows how to build a GT

She knows how to build a GT magnet program without extra funding.  If he takes her offer, I'll have a lot more respect for him.  If you want more Enloes without spending more money, you want her on your team.

I think she made some bad moves politically... but her resume as an educator is impressive. We could use her experience.

You must be kidding. All I

You must be kidding. All I can say to that is I am glad you are not in a position to make those kinds of decisions.

hmmm, rather a

hmmm, rather a stretch....elementary vs. HS magnet....but....

No

he took a pass on that, I'm pretty sure!

...

Education consultant? Good grief. Go away already.

Her current job is being an

Her current job is being an education consultant.

I'd have to say she has hurt

I'd have to say she has hurt her future business opportunities with the way she has conducted herself during the campaign.  Someone who can't keep her stories straight has no business consulting.

for WCPSS??????

for WCPSS??????

No. Click here for her

No. Click here for her resume.

thanks!  I'm sure you've

thanks!  I'm sure you've posted it before, so sorry.....

(I can't keep up with this woman though! :)

Why do I feel like I am

Why do I feel like I am witnessing someone's descent into madness? Is Truitt's middle name Sybil?

I have often said these same

I have often said these same things recently.....my word....imagine trying to explain this to someone who is not living here!

Call the paramedics!

I just choked on my snack.
Dr. Truitt, please keep your egotistical offer and your phony persona far, far away from my children. Instead, simply get out your checkbook to reimburse ALL OF US CITIZENS for the wasted time, energy and money that we have invested to insure that you do not get the seat of leadership that John Tedesco has honestly earned.
