WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Node 337.3 out of luck

Bookmark and Share

Node 337.3 is apparently out of luck for staying at Leesville Road High School.

School board member Patti Head asked about not moving the node to Millbrook High School. The problem was that it was caught up in the whole we're taking too many kids out of Millbrook High already argument.

The thought of losing another 76 kids slated to go to Millbrook didn't fly with the board. Sensing no support, Head didn't ask for a vote.

Head instead asked about redrawing the boundary lines for the node, as suggested by some parents, to allow some of those kids to stay at Leesville. Staff will review the idea and report back to the board.

Think about it...

I hope folks now understand that when school boards refuse to listen to logic, facts, etc, - sometimes for 10 years or more - people organize and take matters to the General Assembly.

It's not always a case of "let's put more control in the government's hands" - it's a case of the local powers abusing their control, with no one to hold them accountable.

"Local control" means different things to different people. To me it means the citizens - the "grassroots".

I have advocated for years that when parents write letters to School Board members, County Commissioners, etc., they send one to their representatives downtown. Even if they say it's not in their jurisdiction to deal with such matters, if they hear from hundreds of constituents, they'll listen. It certainly can't do any harm if your arguments are legit.

The new session starts on Wednesday.

Maybe.....

Perhaps it is another case of.........

I voted for the move before I voted against the move.......

When will the madness stop?

It will stop WHEN

the parents in Wake County stand up and fight!  And I'm not talking about signs with your node on it, going to a moan & groan session where Rosa Gill sits and rolls her eyes at you as she impatiently waits to leave for dinner or calling your worthless boe rep to complain,

I'm talking about REALLY fight!!!

g88ky07 .. they must have

g88ky07 .. they must have really done you wrong today .. you are all over the place (blogs)trying to get a riot going ...

My coffee got cold early.

My coffee got cold early.

....

Is that the most ridiculous thing you have ever read?

They can't NOT move Leesville kids to Millbrook because they now don't want to take too many kids out of Millbrook. Wha?
