The school board has decided not to make any change in the assignments for H6 in northeastern Wake.
But with funding to build H6 still uncertain, stay tuned.
"The money is not in our pocket yet," said Rosa Gill, chairwoman of the school board.
The plan is to open H6 a year early on the campus of Heritage High in 2010. If the money comes through, the permanent campus will open 2011.
County commissioners will vote on the next stage of funding for H6 next month.
Asst. Supt. Chuck Dulaney warned that H6 could also be held up if the renovations for Wake Forest-Rolesville High are delayed after they move to Heritage's campus this fall.
Dulaney said the priority is to renovate WFRHS, even if it means keeping them at Heritage longer and delaying the opening of that school. If there are any delays, he said they'd have to hold off the assignments for H6 and Heritage.
They're now about to start talking about Heritage.

It seems absurd
Mon, 01/26/2009 - 16:36 — midtownmomto assign students to a school that's not even built yet, let alone funded. I understand that they're trying to do a three-year assignment process, but how can they reasonably follow through with that kind of planning??
Yep, but don't sweat it
Mon, 01/26/2009 - 17:03 — g88ky07because the public isn't going to approve the next bond to fund ANY future schools until MAJOR changes are made. A school board reassigning kids to a school that doesn't exist and doesn't have approved funding?!
Between the economy for at LEAST the next 4 years and parents/voters who will CRUSH the next bond they won't be funding lunches for Rosa let alone a school!
