The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

New Sanford Creek, Brier Creek principals

We've got new principals tonight for Brier Creek and Sanford Creek elementary schools.

The school board announced that Ve-Lecia Council will take over at Sanford Creek Elementary in Rolesville. She replaces Jamee Lynch, who is now principal of the East Wake School of Integrated Technology.

Council has been principal of Baucom Elementary in Apex since 2005.

Over in Northwest Raleigh, Sandy Chambers will now lead Brier Creek Elementary. She replaces Gig Harris, who is retiring.

Chambers is a longtime Durham schools employee who has been principal of W.G. Pearson Elementary School since 2006.

i know some of you guys are still waiting but no action was taken tonight to fill the opening at Garner High School.

Baucom Principal

Does anyone have an idea of when a new principal for Baucom will be named? Many are very interested and would love to have that information before deciding if they want to go to Laurel Park Elementary or not.

IfWake follows the usual timeline, you probably won't have anyone named until May or later. Going back to a traditional calendar actually reduces the need to get someone hired sooner. Wake still needs to hold new principal input sessions with staff and parents at the school.

Don't know. A lot depends on whether the new hire is someone who works in Wake. If not, they'd likely have to wait 60 days before starting.
