WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

New principals named to Wake Forest-Rolesville and Southeast Raleigh high schools

Bookmark and Share

The Wake County school board announced Tuesday two new high school principals and two interim principals.

Patti Hamler will now be principal of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School with a salary of $124,043. Hamler is a former high school principal who has been principal of Leesville Road Middle School in North Raleigh since 2007.

David Schwenker will be principal of Southeast Raleigh High School with a salary of $109,137. Schwenker has been principal of Carnage Middle School in Raleigh since 2009.

Elaine Hanzer will fill in as interim principal of Carnage. Before her retirement, Hazer was principal of Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School.

No interim principal has been named yet at Leesville because Hamler won't start her new job until Oct. 3.

Martha McCaskill's appointment as interim principal of the East Wake School of Health and Science in Wendell was extended through the end of October.

Normally I don't blog about assistant principal appointments, but this is a little different. Darryl Fisher was appointed to be an interim assistant principal at Wilburn Elementary School in North Raleigh. Fisher was Wilburn's principal for 21 years until he left in 2006 to work in Central Office and later retired.
