WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Creech Road appointee

In September, our former principal left under mysterious circumstances with no explanation whatsover from our area superintendant. Our school was left in crisis. It is no wonder that this position, only publicly posted for a brief time in November, ended up (after months with an interim adminstrator) being filled by a person who has never taught in the classroom and who has (according to my perusal of her resume) not kept any one of her assitant principalships for more than a few years. Last year, I was proud to be elected Creech's Teacher of the Year. Monday is my last day. I'm off to work in a charter school in Durham. The children and families of Creech Road were amazing to work with! I will miss them, every single one. Joy in learning.

Wake's loss

What a tragedy - as a former WCPSS teacher myself, however, I don't blame you. Best of luck!

Despite your assumption, "mhardynp" DID post facts, not a point of
view. The truth is, "school day," you can't handle the facts. Rather
than do what's right, the Wake Co. Public School System continues to
empower those who have no stake in improving public education in the
name of equity. Instead, the county hides behind a pathetic and
miserable few who continue to perpetuate the status quo and stroke their
own obvious insecurities by making defensive, dishonest, and malicious
accusations that never materialize. I feel deeply sorry for all of the
staff members and parents who ARE committed to the success of Creech
Road. Tough decisions are being made on a daily basis, most leaving
students without hope. I fear for Creech Road's future. Wake Co. is at a
loss and continues to make decisions that are not in the best interest
of its children, families, and educators.
