The Wake County school system will need a new person to help the school board decide on the future of the magnet school program.
David Ansbacher, senior director of magnet school programs, will be leaving to become a principal in Singapore. Since March, he has been a member of the student assignment task force.
Ansbacher's successor will have a myriad of issues to deal with, including recommending which three schools get magnet programs for the 2012-13 school year.
The blue and green plans both call for three new magnet programs in 2012-13.
For planning purposes, the student assignment task force listed Creech Road, East Garner and Fox Road elementary schools as the three new magnet schools.
But James Overman, head of the student assignment task force, said no final decision had been on which schools to magnetize.
The idea of adding a magnet program at Fox Road has been floated about for years.
Creech Road is one of the four Renaissance schools
It could be a challenge magnetizing East Garner because it's on the multi-track year-round calendar. Wake has historically avoided operating magnet programs at multi-track year-round schools.
