WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Low turnout for superintendent input meeting

Bookmark and Share

There are only a handful of people as of 6 p.m. for the start of the superintendent input meeting.

Members of the media outnumber community members in the board meeting room. It's scheduled to run until 8 p.m.

If you don't come tonight, there's always 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow in the school board meeting room, 3600 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.

UPDATE

As of 6:30 p.m., 10 people in audience, mostly critics of the school board majority.

I'm about to think most "law-yers" are sleezebags......it's that "if you can't beat em, join em" thing, I guess...money's just too darn good apparently, whether it's "good money" or "bad money."

Keung - How many at the 10

Keung - How many at the 10 am meeting?

Added later: Got a number of 24+ from another post.

Oil Spill ....

Have we reached the point where those EVIL "not from heres" can be blamed for the Gulf oil spill yet?  I bet Geo Bush would relinquish blame for Katrina if someone wants to blame THAT on the EVIL school board too.

I've got crab grass in my backyard.  Is there a form I fill out to blame them for that?

I see it as, the support

I see it as, the support toward the WCPSS Board of Ed. plans for the future. The people that oppose ending the diversity policy isn't a big group of people.

Waste of Time

Waste of Time - Why is the turn out small for the superintendent input meeting?  The public has finally realized their suggestions are just a waste of time.  Whatever they say goes in one ear and out the other with the majority of the board members.  So why waste time when your time doesn't mean a thing to these five selfish people!  This is just another show they are putting on to make you think they really care.  Believe me they DON'T !!!!!!!

Low Turnout

Notification could have been more extensive, beginning with the schools website at wcpss.net. It was not on the school's calender: only as a written announcement. Fortunately I saw it on the WRAL website. So much for a stellar public relations team. Local media should have no problem showing every speaker verbatim.

It just goes to show that

It just goes to show that this position, hitherto, has been about peddling 'diversity' than education.

FYI I hate to spoil your

FYI I hate to spoil your rant, but the board members are not putting on the meeting nor are they even there.
