A group of local Democrats gave $22,000 in their unsuccessful last-minute TV ad against school board candidates Debra Goldman, Chris Malone and Deborah Prickett.
In this campaign finance report filed this week by Wake Citizens for Good Government, Democratic pollster Dean Debnam turned out to be the main financial backer. He donated $4,000 and loaned $6,000. The loan was repaid.
Democratic political strategist Ken Eudy and National Education Association Executive Director John Wilson both gave $4,000.
Democratic fundraiser Linda Davis and former Raleigh City Councilwoman Stephanie Fanjul both gave $2,000. Davis is Eudy's wife. Fanjul is Debnam's wife.
The group paid $11,150 to WRAL to run the ad. Perhaps coincidentally, the PAC paid $2,000 to Campaign Connections to do the video production of the spot.
Campaign Connections was founded by Democratic political strategist Brad Crone, who is school board candidate Cathy Truitt's strategist.

Let's not forget all the free "ads"
Sat, 10/10/2009 - 08:51 — Voice_of_Reason_The media was all against change. But still the public spoke and the message was different. Those that blame the small turnout ignore the internal polls of the opposition that validated the results.
The names of groups the opposition form are amusing and never really fit. Why do the media give some of these groups credibility? Of course, it was OK to ignore our groups or discredit them (except of course when a law suit is involved). The funny thing is media and their accomplices never really think this overthrow could be done.....I wonder what Stan Norwalk is plotting now...maybe getting some far left group that has yet to form (e.g. Center for Excellence in Public Education) to invent a new award to award for Dr Burns and the school system...too bad the Nobel Peace prize has been used for another deserving person....still there is always American Idol...
Let them spend (or waste) their money.
Now that campaign reports
Sat, 10/10/2009 - 07:09 — AngelaWNow that campaign reports prove the late minute money driving the last moments of the Wake School Board election, it’s obvious. The greatest issue was never about diversity. Never about little children learning together.

More To Gain
Sat, 10/10/2009 - 04:46 — MissVStephanie Fanjul went to Washington DC to work for John Wilson and the NEA. Got tired, came back.
Isn't she still Dean Debnam's wife? And how much does he plan to pay his own polling firm?
Which means that there is much who desperately wanted the 'others' to win that had ZERO to do with diversity and busing. It was the money, all along.
A simple, honest question...
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 22:03 — Its_the_parents...How many of these deep-pocketed political heavy-hitters actually live in Wake County and actually have (or had) children in county public schools? Were they the privileged few who could dodge MYR/FYR, reassignments etc etc because of access to private schools or plum magnet assignments???
Just asking...
It is interesting that the
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 15:15 — woodstockIt is interesting that the BOE candidates with "campaign strategists," advisors, and large contributions all got defeated...and one of them -- Truitt -- will get defeated twice.

...
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 15:07 — SideburnsLet that sink in. Negative attack ads, lies, flip-flopping and now trying to "revise" her lie with another lie. Cathy Truitt will do anything to anyone to win.
!!
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 14:59 — choice4allI am confused. Is this allowed? I only ask because someone complained that teeny tiny donations for WCSA Candidates were crossing districts. Hmmm
Probably...
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 15:41 — Bob_SconceThere's nothing wrong with money crossing district lines -- heck, a good bit of the money used by Kay Hagan to beat Elizabeth Dole was from out-of-state. That was just a distraction put up by those who opposed progress.
!!
Fri, 10/09/2009 - 16:15 — choice4allBetween you and me I knew that. How would Rita then explain all the money from DC? I was being sarcastic.
Seems to me these people are very desperate. This IS about the children right? :)

Fri, 10/09/2009 - 15:04 — KeungHui (author)I'm not a campaign finance lawyer, but the spot was probably ok. It didn't tell you to vote for any specific candidates. The allegation against WSCA is that it was coordinated with the candidates.
All done according to SBOE finance laws, certainly.
