WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

You're going to want to return to the blog and the paper's main website at 10 a.m. for info on the new test results.

At 10 a.m., the state Board of Education will release the results of the ABCs of Public Education testing and accountability program. You'll be able to see which Wake schools met academic expectations this past school year to earn teacher bonuses. The results are interesting.

Why wait for 10:00 ?

The results are posted now and not embargoed as the state website says. A quick glance indicates a lot of elementary and more middle school making high growth than in the past. (Initial reaction in scrolling. ) Most of the high schools attained NR status, except for Green Hope, Apex, and Cary? Performance % are not included.

Remember this is growth - how far students move academically from where they start. Many of the schools you might consider "low performing" attained very good growth scores.

Excel at the ready

And waiting to see the spin that follows. I would like to see good news for once, that our schools are doing better, as long as facts back it up. Nice tease Hui.
