WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Kevin Hill and Susan Evans appointed to chair Wake County school board committees

Bookmark and Share

Changes on the Wake County school board mean new leadership roles for board members Kevin Hill and Susan Evans.

Hill will now chair the board's facilities committee, replacing the departed Chris Malone. Hill, who can now chair committees since he's no longer board chair, will lead the committee as it takes the lead role in developing the new school bond issue.

New board chairman Keith Sutton has asked Evans to take over for him as chair of the board's finance committee. Evans will chair the lead committee on developing the school budget in what could be a tough funding year with county commissioners.

Sutton said Tuesday that other committee changes will be made after Malone's successor is appointed Feb. 5. That person will draw some committee assignments.

For now at least, none of the minority board members chair any of the committees. During 2010-11, minority members chaired a few committees such as finance and community relations.

funny

'New board chairman Keith Sutton has asked Evans to take over for him as chair of the board's finance committee.'

Ms. 'I'm a CPA, wait no I'm not' Evans leading the finance committee? You just can't make this stuff up.

Anyone who would even

Anyone who would even consider giving Evans authority to do anything needs to have their heads examined. She has demonstrated repeatedly--and has left no room for doubt--that she is a nut... a very mean, nasty and ignorant nut.

"...none of the minority board members chair any of the committees.

LOL Now, there is that wonderful let's-work-together mentality Sutton talks so much about. What a leader!

Not unusual

Minority party members have ranking members not chairmen/chairladies on the committees of governing
boards.
