WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

John Tedesco's 2011 Tax Day Tea Party speech

Bookmark and Share

Wake County school board member John Tedesco is ticking off liberals (yet again) with his remarks at this month's Tax Day Tea Party rally in Greensboro.

In a blog post Monday on the Progressive Pulse blog, Rob Schofield accuses Tedesco of engaging in a "rant." Schofield writes that "any notion...that, perhaps, the fire-breathers have mellowed just a smidge in recent months in light of being confronted with the realities of governing – should be put to rest by" Tedesco's speech.

Tedesco was effusive in his praise of the Tea Party, limited government and Christianity. He was critical of Democrats, saying they're "working for a "socialist agenda."

“We stand on the forefront of a new American Revolution and you, you are the forefront of that revolution and I think it’s fitting that that revolution, again in 2011, begin with a tea party!” Tedesco said.

You can find several more of his quotes in Schofield's blog post.

Why religion?

What does religion have to do with political philosophy?   Is there a chapter in the bible about limited government?   Was there some principle about separation of church and state somewhere in the founding of the US?

I saw that, I'm thinking A.

I saw that, I'm thinking A. McLaurin will retire early and appoint him to her position.

I was at a meeting where

I was at a meeting where McLaurin introduced Nancy McFarlane to Tata as the 'next mayor of Raleigh'.  So I'm guessing she'll be running in his place.

Is she from around here?

Is she from around here?

What exactly...

does John Tedesco do for a living? You know, what does he do to earn income to pay for his lifestyle?

John's a community

John's a community organizer....Tony Rezco bought his house in Garner and is currently working on a prison pipeline breakout (just kidding).

LOL If looney extreme

LOL If looney extreme left-winger Bobby Schoefield is upset, Tedesco must be hitting all the right notes. I'd say keep the faith, John... but that would be like asking the sun to keep rising. I know you will.

Hui, you sure don't like JT

do you?

Now that is kind of silly to

Now that is kind of silly to say. What makes you think I "hate" Tedesco? Is it because I blog about him so much? He has a higher profile than just about any board member and often his talks are recorded so it make it easier to write about.

Well maybe

but I never said "hate" and I consider Debra Goldman just as high profile. Although not as much lately, since she went into hiding.

Why not hound her a little harder and see if you can be the first to crack her new no comment policy.

Off-topic...
