WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Jim Goodmon gives money to Lindy Brown

Bookmark and Share

Capitol Broadcasting CEO Jim Goodmon decided to financially back all four Democratic candidates for Wake County commissioner after all.

A last-minute report for Commissioner Lindy Brown shows that she got $1,000 from Goodmon. It's one of the 48-hour campaign reporting notices that candidates submit if they get at least $1,000 from a donor between the period of the last pre-election report and Election Day.

Previously, Brown had been the only Democrat who hadn't gotten money from Goodmon.

Combined, Goodmon and his wife gave $14,000 to the four Democrats.

In comparison, Art Pope and his family gave a combined $48,000 to three of the Republican candidates. Only Phil Matthews, who is Brown's opponent, didn't get money from Pope.

But if you exclude family members, Goodmon personally gave $10,000 and Pope personally gave $12,000.

So You Were Fine....

....with them - and thought you could rely on them for unbiased news - when Jesse Helms was spewing his racist commentary from their news desk but you're not now?   Somehow I think they'll be able to survive without your patronage.

Yep, I figured you'd be a

Yep, I figured you'd be a little cranky today.

Durham Bulls

Goodmon also owns the Durham Bulls.  Trying to decide Goodmon's ideology by his business holdings will lead you wherever you are determined to be led.

He "used to be" quite apolitical .... extremely so .... then his wife contracted terminal limousine liberal guilt and convinced Jim to go hard-line Left.

Where we'd disagree is I

Where we'd disagree is I don't think being willing to pay higher taxes to support those less fortunate is "hard-line left".

Most right-wingers that I have dealt with think anyone to their left in ideology is "hard-line left".  That's the difference, in my eyes, between the two parties.

There's plenty of room between where I stand on most issues and what I'd call "hard-line right".

Most people are somewhere in the middle of the extremes.  You just consider the ones on the left of the middle "hard line".

He can't be but so

He can't be but so liberal.  He also owns Fox 50.

Different Foxes

Fox50 is not FoxNewsChannel.  BIG DIFFERENCE.

Jim & Barbara Goodmon are every bit as extreme Left as Art Pope is extreme Right.  Interpret that however you please.

But, the FOX in both is

But, the FOX in both is connected to the same parent company, right?

veto WRAL news

I have completely quit watching WRAL news after relying on it my entire life for local coverage.  Thanks to Jim Goodmon annointing himself as the voice and pocketbook for everything liberal (illegals, anchor babies, welfare mothers, death penalty foes, etc) I feel that I can no longer rely on WRAL for unbiased news.

So good-bye David Crabtree, Greg Fishel, traffic guy and all the rest.  It's been a good 50 years, but this is the end of the road.  If you need me, you can reach me thru Channel 11 WTVD news.  Toodles.
