WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Bookmark and Share

Interim Wake County Schools Superintendent Stephen Gainey is downplaying rumors that have circulated in some schools locally and around the country that students will bring weapon to campus Friday.

In an automated phone call sent to all families today, Gainey says they're aware of the rumors and that "investigators have determined there is no direct or substantiated threat to students and schools." Gainey says that "our security teams and law enforcement are monitoring this situation and will continue to investigate all leads."

"I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority at the Wake County Public School System, and because of recent events, we understand this is a heightened time of concern about school safety," Gainey says. "We have asked local law enforcement agencies to provide extra support on Friday in the schools where this specific rumor has created concern."

LOL

Yeah, we have tons of fire trucks here, but there is no fire. Ah, we have to crack open your chest, but you have nothing to worry about with your heart. I'd love to say I told you so, bit many have not been here long enough to remember. Taxpayers will NEVER find out the truth......the WCPSS will hide behind FERPA and say that they cannot discuss any issues. Take a look at the WCPSS employee warnings.....NO expectation of privacy at any time when at school......you can't say anything to anyone about anything that happened at school.......no matter how f-d up anything gets if you say anything you will get charged with insubordintation if you point it out. If you tell a parent that their little girl was molested you will be fired. I said these things years ago.......and sooner or later......it will uncover.

That's a real damn mess you have there

Maybe Santa will bring you an extra gift, but as long as you've been pounding this story I'm kind of doubting it will ever uncover.

Happy Egg Nog!

Willynilly, your cryptic postings...

border on being creepy. Time to drop the innuendo and actually front up for once...
