Wake County school board candidate Heather Losurdo has scheduled a 6 p.m. press conference to discuss the questions raised about what she did at First Union Bank in the 1990s.
"There has been much speculation about my employment history at First Union Bank by detractors of my campaign to serve on the Wake County School Board," says Losurdo in a press advisory. "I invite members of the established media to attend a press conference at 6 pm this evening. I will address that speculation at that time."
One question is whether she'll just confirm her employment at First Union or she'll also be able to demonstrate that she oversaw $2 billion in small business loans for all of the Carolinas.
Here's the press advisory for the event:

The two candidates still
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 18:30 — AngelaWThe two candidates still vying for a crucial seat on the Wake County Board of Education sat together Friday for the first time since last month's election to discuss Tuesday's runoff race, student assignment and the politics at play in what has traditionally been a quiet, nonpartisan race.
District 3 incumbent Kevin Hill and challenger Heather Losurdo were part of a taping for WRAL-TV's "On the Record," which airs Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

No need
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 16:10 — liberal1There is no need to even go there. There are enough legitimate issues regarding Heather so as not to use fake ones. I am sorry for Heather and her family that information even came out.
THAT'S NOT...
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 15:38 — ClearThinker...necessary. Mind you, I wouldn't vote for Losurdo for all of First Union's money, but still, she's a mother. Those of us who oppose her candidacy don't need to go that far!
Thank you. She is not
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 15:42 — WhalerCaneThank you. She is not qualified for this job, but no one should care about what she did at 22.
You probably consider Hill
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 18:03 — woodstockYou probably consider Hill "qualified" yet he has as a long history of supporting failed policies and being a roadblack to progress. During his tenure he voted for, supported and even presided over many failed policies that led to embarrassing graduation rates for low-income and many minority students, mandatory year-round assignments, enormous program disparities, increased suspension and drop-put rates, pointless and burdensome forced-busing and reassignments, and discriminatory practices that denied low-income and minority students access to advanced math courses.
These were all acceptable to him as long as there was busing for "diversity" and "healthy schools." He forgot his job was to ensure healthy students. He may be experienced, but he apparently has learned very little from that experience.
All of Hill's failures as a school board member are now being addressed and fixed by the current school board majority. It is time for Hill. He had his chance and blew it.
WOODSY...
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 18:46 — ClearThinker...you don't seem to understand. Or perhaps it's your incapacity to understand. The very fact that Losurdo had to call an emergency press conference at 6 p.m. on a Friday to dispel questions about her work histoty means she's made it a bigger issue in her campaign than it had to be. She didn't have to do that.
But now that she's done it, that's what voters will remember - Losurdo had to prove she's had a decent job beyond being a mechanic in the Air Force with a high school education. She had to prove herself worthy.
And if First Union thought she was so good, and made or saved them so much money, then why didn't she get even a better job in the banking industry? When you do well, folks know about it!
Losurdo should have left it alone, keep swinging on what she'll do on the board if elected, and never look back.
You never win when you raise more questions about your past.
She's just lost! That's five losses for you in less than 30 days, Woodsy. I don't think you, Aging Piercy, Sconce-by-the-Ounce or Jeff Mousy will be able to live with yourselves after this Tuesday.
What fun! Oh the splender!
Hmm...
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 18:53 — Bob_SconceYour side won't be satisfied. First, she's stonewalling. Now that she's addresed it, she would have been better leaving it alone.
As to why she didn't get another job... If I recall correctly, it's because she wanted to take care of her kids.
Losurdo got bad advice
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 21:05 — Solon77Losurdo would have been better off presenting her qualifications in connection with activities on the PTA or other community organizations as opposed to trying impress voters with being a Servicing Specialist (Account Manager) of a $2b loan portfolio. In case she hasn't figured it out yet large banks are generally not viewed favorably these days.

this should be interesting
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 15:03 — JoeTarheelMaybe she should find 1 banker, anywhere on the planet that will verify that a financial institution would hire someone who had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy because of credit card debt to 'manage' a $2Billion loan portfolio.
But i think we all know the answer to that one.
What about her education
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 15:08 — tartexanI want the same banker to also verify that someone with only a GED degree would be able to "manage" that $2 billion loan portfolio.

1 Banker, just one
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 16:22 — JoeTarheelCome on Jeff or any of the Losurdo 'defenders'.
Please find one legitimate banker (loan sharks aside) that would honestly validate that they would hire someone who had just declared personal bankruptcy that would be given 'oversight' of $2Billion in loans.
I double dog dare you.....
For the record, Chapter 7 is what she declared, meaning she just defaulted on the debt instead of working out a payment plan to pay the creditors back versus Chapter 13. And you think a banker would hire someonen like this?
So...
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 16:36 — Bob_SconceI'm not aware of when the job started. Bankruptcies fall off your credit report after a time. And, frankly, checking credit histories (even among banks) used to be a lot less prominant than it is now -- as long as you didn't have the authority to write checks, the risk to the employer is pretty low.
Incidentally, chapter 7 does not mean that you just walk out on the debt. With a few exceptions, all of your assets are sold to pay off your creditors. It's intended to give people a fresh start. Chapter 13 requires you to pay some of your post-bankruptcy pay back to the creditors if you have a job where you make enough to do so, and, IIRC, creditors could always try to convert a Chapter 7 into a Chapter 13 if the debtor had that sort of job.
But most employment applications...
Fri, 11/04/2011 - 17:35 — bpuli9999still ask the question about bankruptcy. Especially in the financial sector.
But the question is - did she have to pad her resume that much? What was the need to lie? I guess we will find out this evening....
