WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Wake County school board candidate Heather Losurdo has raised more than $30,000 in her bid to win the District 3 seat.

The new campaign finance report filed today shows that Losurdo had raised $30,529.55 as of Aug. 30 with $11,801.85 on hand. No updated reports are in yet for school board member Kevin Hill or challenger Jennifer Mansfield. Eric Squires doesn't have to file one because he's spending less than $1,000.

Losurdo's biggest donors in the new report are the $4,000 apiece from Art Pope, Katherine Pope and Bob Luddy.

Other donors in the new report include state Rep. Marilyn Avila, the campaign committee of state Rep. Paul Stam, the campaign committee of Wake County Commissioners Chairman Paul Coble, school board member John Tedesco, school board candidate Donna Williams, former Wake County GOP Chairman Claude Pope and former Wake County Commissioner Stewart Adcock.

Your name ??

TKH:  I don't see your name on Heather's list ???  I'm shocked!

You got to type the word "Pope" THREE times if we count Claude.  Are you sure that fellow who lives in The Vatican didn't contribute too?  That would be FOUR Popes.

You're a funny guy TK.
