Despite the efforts to unseat her, Rosa Gill is back as chairwoman of the school board.
Gill was unanimously elected as chairwoman for another one-year term. Lori Millberg, who was rumored to be lobbying for the job, seconded the nomination.
What might explain how things turned out is that Kevin Hill was elected vice chairman. He got the job after Beverley Clark declined the nomination because she said she had too much on her plate. Clark proceeded to nominate Hill.
All this took place when Ron Margiotta, who had been backing Gill, beat MIllberg to the punch to nominate Clark as vice chairwoman. Both Margiotta and Millberg spoke at about the same time, but he was slightly faster so his nomination came first.
According to the rumors, Hill was considered a swing vote for Millberg in a 5-4 contest. Without his support, MIllberg might have decided not to run.
Hill was elected by a 6-3 vote with Millberg, Patti Head and Horace Tart voting no. Head and Tart had been rumored to be supporters of MIllberg. Head was also rumored to be a candidate for vice chairwoman.

Tue, 06/17/2008 - 22:52 — Anonymous (not verified)"How do we maintain what we have with less money?" asked school board chairwoman Rosa Gill.
Ms Gill:
It's called living within a limited budget.
Reduce your driving - you might want to consider that diesel fuel is killing your now-limited budget. Consider driving kids around the county as being secondary to EDUCATION.
A very close second has to be reduction in administrative cost. GO TALK TO DEL AND CHUCK. Let them take even a 5% cut for just the next year. You are the leader here, not them. Base their pay on PERFORMANCE.
LOOK at VALUE ADD. Which administrative positions are not pulling their weight? Surely you can eliminate a lot of non-contributing positions - consider your Public Relations group.
A line-item by line-item review of your expenses should yield a 10% reduction. Prioritize.
Has it been that long ago that you can't remember how to live within a $1.2B budget ???

Gill election
Tue, 06/17/2008 - 18:56 — Apex Parent (not verified)Congratulations to Rosa Gill - she has been a calming and reasoned force in a charged environment. I hope she can continue working with County Commissioner Chairman Joe Bryan, who despite being from the opposite party, is also a rational voice. There is great opportunity for cooperation, even with some degree of healthy tension between the boards.
