WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Gill not picked to replace Vernon Malone

Bookmark and Share

Rosa Gill won't be leaving the school board quite so soon.

The executive committee of the Wake County Democratic Party chose state Rep. Dan Blue tonight to fill the state Senate seat of the late Vernon Malone. Gill was nominated by fellow school board member Lori Millberg, but she declined it and instead backed Blue.

Gill might still be in the running for Blue's House seat when it's filled at a later date by the executive committee.

Agreed, not surpirsed either......

Rosa is not the brightest bulb on the Wake Dems bush. She has provided much entertainment and amusment as Chairman of the BoE. If she had a "R" next to her name, no doubt the NandO and WRAL would have been roasting her over the coals for the hateful comments she has made over the years. But alias, she has the "D" and is given a free pass on all her comments.

I hope that Mr. Blue is not nearly as hateful or racist as Malone.

What kind of human swine

What kind of human swine would call Vernon Malone a racist?

Oh,  look at that user id.  It's the KKK wing of the anti school board crowd.  Question answered.

And

what's sad is that the other cronies on here never call him out on his out of control behavior.

Two wrongs don't make a right

I do think calling a deceased person a racist (unless it was overtly obvious) a bit over the top. But, I also think calling someone a member of the KKK, WAY over the top. I don't know Mr. Malone so I assume from your comment he was not overtly racist. Even if he was, given what occured during his  generation, I can let it slide.

That being said, supportwcpss your verbal behavior goes "out of control" often, more so than Wuptdo. Look at the mirror sometimes. Even user1234, doesn't stoop to your use of insults to all that disagree with you.

Hmm...

People on your side go a 'bit over the top' and those not on your side go 'way over the top'.

Hypocrite.

And those on YOUR side

we can count on one hand!

Many were not picked

An odd headline - the list of those not picked (including yours truly!) is long and distinguished.

That's the headline here

That's the headline here because on this blog there's more interest in Gill not being selected than someone like Bernard Allen Jr.

Not surprised

she isn't bright enough to hold a position such as that!

And not surprised that the heartless Millberg pushed her name out!
