WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Gainor's new job

Bookmark and Share

There are more than a few Ed Gainor fans on the blog so I thought you'd be interested in the latest news on him.

Tonight, the school board appointed Gainor to be an interim assistant principal at Wakefield Elementary from Nov. 19 to Dec. 19. Gainor was the popular principal at Leesville Road Elementary from when it opened in 1992 until his retirement in 2007.

Since leaving Leesville, Gainor has joined the cadre of retired principals who've been asked to fill in on a temporary basis at different schools. He's been an interim principal at Green and York elementary schools.

Good luck, if anyone can

Good luck, if anyone can make a difference, it's Mr. Gainor. It was so nice to have him speak at the Middle school the other day. LES has been doubly blessed since we received Mrs. Chapman when Mr. Gainor left us.

Good news for Wakefield

Mr. Gainor will be welcome at Wakefield. The school needs help.

Has a negative word ever

Has a negative word ever been uttered when discussing Ed Gainor? Anyone fortunate enough to have him even as an interim principal is very lucky indeed.

Miss Him!!!!!

Although it was time to move on their are not enough kind words to say about this awesome man. How lucky for ANY school to experience this wonderful person.

Mr. Gainor Is An ICON

WOW---only 1 comment on Mr. Gainor??

We were so fortunate to have him as our Principal for so many years.

At yesterday's LRMS Honor Roll ceremony he was the speaker. Many kids and parents were almost brought to tears by his memories of teasing and bullying he endured in middle school.

When the LRMS Principal made closing remarks, she said "When I grow up I want to be just like Mr. Gainor".

He is really enjoying the "temporary jobs" and anyone who has the opportunity to come into contact with him is truly blessed.

I meet Mr Gainor once and he

I meet Mr Gainor once and he seemed realy nice. He also set up an supported an excellent AU program at LES.  He had alot of fans outside of LES as I heared about him retiring from LES when it went Year round from many people on the Cary side of Wake. He was considered one of the first causlties of MYR.  Glad he is still hellping out somewhere in Wake.
