Former Gov. Jim Hunt is calling registered Democrats in Wake County to urge them to vote for the party's endorsed school board candidates on Tuesday.
Here's the text of the robocall:
Hunt: "This is Gov. Jim Hunt. I'm calling to urge you vote in the upcoming school board election. I spent most of my life working to improve K-12 public education and I know how vital our schools are to our economy and the future of Wake County.
Wake County has built a nationally recognized school system over the years. But strong and visionary leaders are particularly needed now. Please be sure to cast your vote for a strong school board leader on Oct. 11th."
Narrator: "Paid for by the Wake County Democratic Party."

What?! If Jim Hunt spent "most of his life" ,,,
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 11:58 — woodstockWhat?! If Jim Hunt spent "most of his life working to improve K-12 education," then why the hell does NC still rank toward the bottom nationally? Hunt is not a exactly a spring chicken, "most of his life" is a long damn time. He either has no clue what the hell he is doing (this is my guess), or it is such a massive job that he needs a few more lives to tackle all the work required.
look into some education data Wood
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:51 — SatchHHAlthough NC ranks about bottom NOW in ed spending thanks to our Republican legislators, during Hunt's tenure and afterward NC moved up steadily in the ranks of educational achievement (and ED spending) if you look at national comparisons. We are at the national average in reading grade 4 and above it in math!!!!. Google National Assessment of Educational Progress to check it out. Hunt and later governors made a HUGE difference in educational outcomes for students in the state and for our business success as well. Folks won't come to Wake if our schools stink. And the schools will stink (have and have not schools) if the current board majority gets its way.
Nice try reinventing
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:53 — CaryCurmudgeonNice try reinventing history. NC's per-pupil spending under Perdue and her Democratic legislature was 48th in the nation. You can blame the Republicans for slipping one notch, the rest is on the Dems who ran this state for years.
Well CaryC...
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:58 — paulastamfor all that was good and bad while the Dems were in charge at least our schools had media assistants, teacher assistants were paid more (but still underpaid) and floors were vacuumed in classrooms more than once a week!
Paula, "Independent, Fair & Speaking Up for MY Kids."
HMMM....
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 12:39 — ClearThinker..."Rank toward the bottom nationally..." Isn't THAT where WCPSS is right now, thanks to two fruitless years of Republican rule? EVERYTHING that Margiotta and co. have claimed as their success was actually in the mix before 2009, and that's a documented FACT!
Tomorrow, the voters decide, an even if the GOP holds on to the majority (if not super majority), the feds at OCR will NAIL them for their "stellar" leadership towards the bottom!
Either way, Woodsy, pullout the padding, 'cause I plan to be a thorn in your side for the next two years if the Republicans stay in control!
And you can tell Aging Piercy that too!
The real impact
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:54 — SatchHHThe real impact of the awful policies/direction of the current board majority won't be felt on student achievement immediately. As teachers leave, transfer from higher poverty schools, we'll start to notice a difference. Our high graduation rate and SAT scores are the result of many years of the previous boards' policies making a difference. Malone is going to jump ship just as the shit hits the fan. The only way to stop the disaster is to make sure the current majority changes.
As teachers leave?
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 22:44 — FSandYOUYou must've missed Patti Head's last memo, the one before she quit, that said we have teachers lining up to get into our system, let 'em go.
We'll have no problem filling any position that the county can afford to fill anytime they choose to fill it. Right Patti!

Mon, 10/10/2011 - 12:52 — woodstockYour sheets are moist every morning after waking up to those kinds of dreams, aren't they? LOL!!
Well, the GOP will stay in control and believe it or not, what you say or what you think has no bearing whatsoever on me; if your intention is to be a thorn, I promise you it will not matter and I doubt very much I will even notice.
THEN...
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:01 — ClearThinker...why do you respond? The definition of not noticing is nogt responding. Just like a Republican, Woodsy...say one thing, and do the opposite! Like I said, the feds will have the last laugh on this one, so VOTE AWAAAAAAAAAAY! (hey Woodsy, have any dry sheets?).
LOL if you are pinning your
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:06 — woodstockLOL if you are pinning your hopes on the competely bogus civil rights witch hunt you are going to be very, very disappointed.
WHAT!...
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 11:50 — ClearThinker...you mean to tell me that Margiotta, "Stinky" Losurdo, Williams, Matson and "poor-on-the-floor" Peyton AREN'T "strong and visionary leaders"? If the best governor in NC history says they're not, THAT'S good enough for ME!
Heh...
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:00 — Bob_SconceInterestingly, this Robocall didn't say who he thought those strong and visionary leaders are.
I asked about that and was
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:22 — KeungHui (author)I asked about that and was told it wasn't necessary because the calls were only going to registered Democrats who would presumably know the people who've been endorsed by the party.
Best Governor?
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 16:41 — lawyerjohnYou have no concept of history. Jim Hunt isn't even in the running. ClearThinker is more like MuddyWaters
REALLY...
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:05 — ClearThinker...so why don't you tell me who you think was a "Best Govenor." Betcha you didn't even live here for more than ten years!
How About
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 19:51 — lawyerjohnHow about Zebulon T Vance? And since I was in the state senate then I guess you're wrong again Muddy Thoughts. You're such a goof.
WHOAAAA....
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:17 — ClearThinker...you've been riding the back of the horse too long there senator. First of all, it would help, since this is an education news blog, if you actually KNEW your favorite governor's name - it's Zebulon Baird Vance, NOT Zebulon T. Vance.
Secondly, you pick a Confederate racist and slave owner who got his butt thrown in prison by the president of the United States as this state's best governor, and you call me a "goof?' I realize you must long for the "good ole days" of Mammy and Remus, but I think Jim Hunt is a tad better than old ZB there.
No question you are a conservative good ole boy Republican, John. Too bad your heart is still stuck in Dixie!
LOL
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 21:05 — starsonoursI thought you were going to say "Perdue" or "Easley" but if you served with Vance I can understand your bias.
