Here are some election races of note that could impact the school system.
Democrats are winning all three seats for the board of county commissioners, which would give them a 4-3 majority. This could make the commissioners more receptive to the school district's funding requests.
Supporters of at-large school board elections didn't pick up any new seats in the General Assembly.
It would take support from a majority of the Wake delegation for the General Assembly to approve election changes for the school board. The Democrats in the delegation have been reluctant to back the idea.
Bob Hunter, the lead attorney for Wake CARES, has won a seat on the N.C. Court of Appeals. A new lawyer will have to oversee the year-round case as it goes before the N.C. Supreme Court.
