WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Donna Martinez is "glad" that Wake County school board member Deborah Prickett is speaking out

Bookmark and Share

Donna Martinez is applauding Wake County school board member Deborah Prickett for the speech she made Tuesday night about the microphone-snatching incident with Susan Evans.

In a blog post today for the conservative John Locke Foundation, Martinez writes that "I’m glad Prickett will continue to speak out on behalf of Wake parents who want and expect a voice in their child’s education, rather than a system-focused mindset that now dominates the school board."

"What a shame for the children and families who will be trapped by closed minds and status-quo thinking," Martinez continues.

Martinez quotes from portions of Prickett's speech in which she charged that Evans' actions was an assault.

Ah the status quo....

as with NC.....400,000,000 spent on NCWISE and now, the next debacle.  BILLIONS spent on NBPTS with NO proof it works.  School board arguing over BS and ignoring things that matter.  And the taxpayers suck up the tab.

others are glad Deborah is speaking out as well...

"Lies?  Check.
Name-calling?  Check.
Threats?  Check.

And now you can add assault to the list.

Sadly, I'm talking about our School Board."

I was never a big fan of Ms Prickett....

and I still have some reservations about her...but she is correct in her assessment of the  BOE and specifically, Ms Evans.

In addition, I completely agree with Jenman's comments at the BOE meeting on Tuesday.

I was pleased to hear

I was pleased to hear Jenman's comments as well.  Mrs. Prickett serves her schools and constituents well and showed more grace and tolerance in this situation than most any other person ever would have shown.

Thanks, both of you.

Thanks, both of you.

So..... ???

What are you implying Keungy?  Are you impunging Donna Martinez?  Seems like you are.  Surely not ???

How come I've never seen "Keung Hui Says...." on any other website?  Are your blog comments not considered of significant importance for anyone to repost?  Just curious....

Whenever someone writes a

Whenever someone writes a blog post about the schools I mention who wrote the post. I'm surprised you don't realize that by now.
