WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? Will the new student assignment plan be a hybrid of the last two models or primarily be a return to the use of busing for diversity? Who will replace Tony Tata as the new superintendent of the state's largest district? How will voters react to a likely request in 2013 to borrow potentially more than $1 billion to build and renovate schools?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Dana King named 2010 Wake Principal of the Year

Bookmark and Share

The Wake County school system has announced this evening its top school-level administrators for 2010.

Millbrook High School Principal Dana King was named the district's 2010 Principal of the Year. Briarcliff Elementary School Assistant Principal Robert Grant was named Wake's 2010 Assistant Principal of the Year.

Before you guys ask, I'm not certain if Grant is the son of Gerald Grant, author of "Hope and Despair in the American City: Why There Are No Bad Schools in Raleigh."

The same one that said, "How

The same one that said, "How many of these kids do you really think are going to college?"  You must be kidding, right?  tsk tsk

It's funny how nobody can

It's funny how nobody can comment except to criticize. Nobody can just say "That's nice." There has to be a whole conspiracy, otherwise it's no fun, right?

King?!? I have never heard

King?!?

I have never heard anything but the absolute worst about her from parents and teachers at Millbrook.

On the teacher workplace satisfaction survey, she had the lowest -by far- results on the question of staff morale and satisfaction with their lead principal than any HS in Wake County.

what up with that?

Now you know, all things,

Now you know, all things, like this award, is all about "who" knows "who"...and who has scratched who's back...LOL

It's the same Grant!

It's the same Grant!  Father wrote the book and now the son is Asst. Principal of the Year the following year.

Everyone must know by now

Everyone must know by now that the principal of the year is selected by other principals  I suspect the meetings go something like this......"If you vote for me this year I and my people will vote for you next year."  I'll even loan you that person on my staff who brings in programs, volunteers in my school to make me look good."
