Wake County's high school base assignment map gives an idea of the reworking that will be done to create community zones.
One of the mandates for the new zones from the student assignment committee is that they have contiguous boundaries. This means no more spot nodes and no more satellite diversity nodes.
To give an idea how it would look at the high school level required some tweaking by staff.

For the sample high school zone map presented at last week's meeting, staff eliminated the non-contiguous nodes. Laura Evans, senior director for growth and planning, said the decisions they made in the map for assigning the non-contiguous nodes to specific schools were strictly for sample purposes.
The end result is this map. It's one of the four maps that the school system is seeking comment on.

Mr. Hui question?
Mon, 08/02/2010 - 17:24 — DrActualFactualWhat is the name of the dividing street between the Apex zone and the Panther Creek/Green Hope Zone? I thought it was Apex Barbeque Road but it looks like it could have been moved up to Green Level Road. Thanks in advance.
I don't know. They didn't
Mon, 08/02/2010 - 17:33 — KeungHui (author)I don't know. They didn't include any specific geographic boundaries or nodes last week. The info might not be in until the next committee meeting on Aug. 31.
Yet they want public
Mon, 08/02/2010 - 19:09 — magnetParentYet they want public comments by Aug. 29th?
Any chance we will see their "regions" for MS/HS?
I'm thinking they're looking
Mon, 08/02/2010 - 21:22 — KeungHui (author)I'm thinking they're looking more for general comment at this point. The inclusion of middle school and high school regional zones is something the committee would have to decide on at some point to supplement what the staff has done.
