Clay Aiken's voter registration status goes before the Wake County Board of Elections on Wednesday.
The county board will hold a preliminary hearing to decide whether a more formal hearing is needed at a later time. If it continues, the board could remove Aiken from the voter rolls.
The county board could also decide to refer the matter to the state Board of Elections for further investigation. From there, the state board could refer the case to Wake District Attorney Colon Willoughby for possible prosecution on voter fraud.
The hearing, based on the challenge filed by Wake GOP Chairman Claude Pope, will be held at 11 a.m Wednesday in the ground floor conference room at 337 S. Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh.

Voter Fraud is a Serious Issue.
Sat, 12/05/2009 - 22:15 — Jeff_morseVoter Fraud can't be challenged by a Party or a Group as in this case a actual person must file a Complaint. Chairman of the Wake County Republican Party did just that and He said he didn't want Clay to face jail time or fines, but to educate Wake county Voters to Change and update their voter information when needed. This is a Serious Issue in America, and North Carolina. I think I heard al most 100,000 Provisional Ballots where Counted in 2008 presidential election and when they were mailed a Verification after the election they bounced back as a bad address. To bad I believe those votes were counted already.........
He didn't feel the same way
Sun, 12/06/2009 - 09:07 — dualienotedHe didn't feel the same way about "voter fraud" accusations when one was leveled at Elizabeth Dole. "Educate the public" my ass.
Looks like it will be...
Sat, 12/05/2009 - 20:46 — louiselee44A wacky Wednesday for sure.
Sorry - couldn't resist that one :^)
I love Clay Aiken!!! :)

Yes, something needs to be
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 22:13 — aquaman4life68Yes, something needs to be done so that future "John Doe" can not simply play the system and vote in elections that they do not have the right to do.
BUT ENOUGH about this guy!! A has been, and I could have cared less about what he thought about the election of the school board! I certainly hope they don't waste to much of my tax dollars on this...but on the other hand...they are going to waste it on something...LOL
Yet the GOP had a fit when this was tried on Elizabeth Dole!
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 14:07 — dualienotedWhen the other side of the political fence tried to disenfranchise Elizabeth Dole for not being a resident, they lost despite proving she had not lived in the state for forty years and did not plan to move back. It takes a lot of nerve to fight that tooth and nail and then turn around and try to strike someone off with far flimsier cause.
The man's official residence is a home his family occupies and that he paid for. Despite owning another property, unless he spends more than half the year literally sleeping under its roof it cannot be declared his official residence against his will, and people like Aiken who travel frequently for work cannot be denied the right to vote at all for not staying put in any one place that long. As long as they declare it's their intention to move back someday (which Elizabeth Dole has never done and Clay has) they stay on the voter rolls where they initially registered, and there is no legal basis for challenging that status. It was spiteful arrogance to try it against Dole and it's doubly so against Aiken, who isn't even a political player.
The people who brought this up have absolutely no chance of winning. Not that it's a total waste of time and energy: they are at least demonstrating the truth of his claim that they are "selfish idiots." Here's hoping the public remembers it next election.

Petty.
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:01 — BWNelsonI suspected the Republican party was heavily involved in this election, which everyone was denying at the time, but going after Clay makes the Grand Old Party look very small indeed. The election results are not disputed. Clay Aiken uses only his mom's address to vote from, what is the problem? He considers his mom's house "home". And what happens at "home" matters more than what happens away from home.
I know people in Michigan who one spouse registers at their regular workaday house and the other spouse registers at their cottage on the lake, (Republicans, mind you, not that it matters). They want to have an impact on the places that matter most to them. Clearly, the place that matters most to Clay is his home-base in Raleigh. What's the problem with this? Unless it can be proved that he double voted, what is the problem here? It seems vindictive and petty to me.
His "home-base" is no longer Mama's house in Raleigh
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 16:48 — TrailerParkGirlHe owns and resides in a 9,000 square foot mansion in Chathem County. There's a video of him giving a tour on youtube if you'd like to see the place - you know sort of like a lifestyles of the rich and famous episode.
Should everyone still just vote at their Mama's address although they own/rent and live in their own place? Would that be a fair election process? Should suspected voter fraud just be overlooked?
These days people who call out others on possible violations get called on the carpet for pointing out the possible violations. It's no wonder this country has a huge ethics problem.
It's important, because it may be voter fraud
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 13:39 — BlawgDawgDuh
Hang on though, ACORN will be sending some highly "skilled" workers to help Clay with the situation, I bet.
So...
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:46 — Bob_SconceThe problem is that he doesn't live at his Mom's house. And, you're only supposed to be registered at the place where you live.
Your friend in Michigan is also breaking the law. In fact, their infraction is far more serious than Aiken's. Aiken just neglected to change his registration when he should have; your friend fraudulently registered someplace where he doesn't live. Had he done that in North Carolina, he would have committed a felony and lost the right to vote permanently. I'm appalled that you think it's OK.
Republicans seem to end up
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:36 — user12345Republicans seem to end up pissing most everyone off except the small group of rabid religious and right wing fanatics the pander to today... They get more irrelevant each day as they struggle for important issues to work on ... as disheartened Republican, I will be glad when the party returns to its roots and philosophy and disengages from chasing votes and publicity and becomes a viable second party.
My husband feels the same way
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 13:32 — BWNelsonHe's sad about what has happened to his party. When Republicans are good, they are just invaluable to good government. But when they are bad, they can really do a lot of damage and cause a lot of unnecessary pain and sorrow.
I am hoping that this new board will be in the first category.
If they are in the second category, I know that we'll go through a lot more popcorn at our house, because it is going to be a great show. Hopefully clear heads will prevail because popcorn can upset my stomach.
Keep posting, you are
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 13:09 — woodstockKeep posting, you are hilarious! It is very entertaining to read the meandering thoughts of sore losers.
Although your argument is beyond weak, when you say "religious,"
don't you mean Christian? People who follow Islam are also religious
and rarely Republican. If you must rant, at least be specific about
whom to attempt to mischaracterize.
FYI: I once mentioned
"pissing" someone off before on the forum and my post was removed
because it was considered "abusive." It's interesting that your post is
still active.

Fri, 12/04/2009 - 15:04 — user12345"Although your argument is beyond weak, when you say "religious," don't you mean Christian?"
Hmm ... no ... I don't think the of "religious" Republicans as being "Christians”.... "religious" Republicans have found themselves supporting endless war, persecuting immigrants, decimating the environment, and neglect the poor in exchange for banning abortion and gays. I just never saw those activities as emulating Christ.
Your definition of Christian...
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 16:15 — dlt21242I agree with your definition of Christian. Uh-oh, I must be a "nut" also.
What a group of petty people on these boards.
Hey, man, if the shoe
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 21:37 — woodstockHey, man, if the shoe fits... Self awareness is a good thing.
Wow, you really are a nut.

I'm so happy to see my tax
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 11:35 — bskt1024I'm so happy to see my tax dollars wasted on stupid things like this. If we continue to waste money like this, we won't ever have to worry about building new schools, buying books or paying teachers' salaries. All of our tax dollars can just get used for insignificant lawsuits.
Our democracy relies on fair elections
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 17:42 — fiestamomOur Representative Republic depends on fair elections. The Broken Windows theory should be applied to fair elections as well. Any and all voter fraud should be punished.
Huh?
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:40 — Bob_SconceSo, the Board of Elections gets paid whether it hears this complaint or not.
Wasting time DOES waste
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 13:22 — bskt1024Wasting time DOES waste money. If there is nothing more important for this board to review, perhaps we should reduce their salaries and put that money to good use elsewhere.
Oh NO!
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 10:28 — g88ky07The Claymates will really be upset now. How unfair!
