WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Changing bell schedules for Enloe and six other schools

Bookmark and Share

Enloe High School isn’t the only one whose bell schedule got tweaked today.

While Enloe's schedule was changed again to add 10 more minutes each day for the upcoming school year, six other schools needed changes as well.

Chief Academic Officer Donna Hargens said the districtwide bell schedule list the school board approved on March 31 had some errors and left out at least one school.

As a result, the new schedule says that Phillips High will run from 7:25 a.m. to 2:17 p.m.

Centennial Campus and Moore Square middle schools will run from 7:35 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon and River Oaks middle schools will run from 7:50 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hodge Road Elementary will run from 8:20 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Moving back to Enloe, the school will now run from 7:25 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The schedule adopted in March had the school running from 7:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.

As previously noted, this latest addition of 10 minutes was done to make sure that Enloe could still do the six early release days and stay above the state requirement of 1,000 hours of instruction a year.

Even with the Enloe change, Hargens said they were able to avoid altering the times at any other schools. Since Wake uses a three-tier bus system, there were questions whether additional changes to Enloe would impact other schools.

Click here for what hopefully is the now complete bell schedule list. The schools in red were the ones that changed from March.
