The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children is applauding the recognition that the Wake County school system and the old diversity policy received in GreatSchools' rankings of the top cities for public schools.
In a press release late Sunday, CCCAAC says the GreatSchools rankings "shows that Wake’s diversity policy provides equality and equity for all children while offering 'parent choice' in school selections."
"Now that the school board has abandoned the 'diversity policy,' will they adopt an assignment policy that separate students according to race and economics creating more high poverty schools?" the CCCAAC says in the press release.
The CCCAAC goes on to question whether the school board will adopt an assignment that "support(s) inequalities, inequities and separation among our children?"
"All children deserve equal educational opportunities regardless of ethnicity or economic status," the CCCAAC says in the release.
Critics of the diversity policy will argue that prior boards weren't providing equal educational opportunities regardless of ethnicity or economic status. They'd likely focus on the old selection criteria for magnet schools, which were weighted in favor of students from more affluent areas.
As the press release shows, you can likely expect other supporters of the diversity policy to bring up the GreatSchools rankings in the future.

I thought the highly
