The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children is formally making endorsements in Wake's school board races.
In a press release sent Sunday night, the CCCAAC said it was backing Rita Rakestraw, Horace Tart, Karen Simon and Lois Nixon because of their support for the diversity policy. The endorsements aren't a shock considering how the group's leader, Calla Wright, has warned that a victory by critics of the policy will lead to de-facto resegregation.
Those four candidates are largely all being endorsed by Wake NCAE, BiggerPicture4Wake, the Independent, the News & Observer, school board member Lori Millberg, 15 former Wake school board members and the Wake County Democratic Party.
Here's the press release:
CITIZEN’S GROUP Support Wake County School Board Candidates
The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children (CCCAAC) announces its support for the following candidates: Rita Rakestaw District 1; Horace Tart in District 2; Karen Simon in District 7; and Lois Nixon in District 9 to fill the openings on the Wake County School Board of Education. We believe these candidates are committed to ensure that all children regardless of socioeconomic class or ethnicity receive equal educational opportunities.
WE are calling on the citizens of Wake County to support these candidates that believe in optimal educational opportunities for each and every child and who support WCPSS socioeconomic integration and racial diversity policy.

NO ONE HAS ADVOCATED A DESIRE
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 11:00 — AngelaWNO ONE HAS ADVOCATED A DESIRE TO RETURN TO SEGREGATED SCHOOLS! However, Raleigh/Wake County black leadership must be held accountable for failing our children. It's their indecisive leadership and laziness that has allowed whole families to fall into such high disrepair http://venitapeyton.com/2009/10/wake-co-resegregation-lie.html
Wow
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 08:22 — supportwcpssI believe you have now taken over from g88 as the biggest jack a$$ on this blog. Let's just go ahead and randomly spew rumors and information with absolutely nothing to back it up. Because the N&O should be the Star or the National Enquirer. At least they should be if it serves your purpose.
You are mistaken, you and
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 11:23 — woodstockYou are mistaken, you and Perry have definitely won the jacka$$ crowns...and I do not see either of you losing that title any time soon.

Mon, 10/05/2009 - 08:10 — freedom12If you think that the pro-neighborhood school candidates and their supporters are anti-diversity racists, THINK AGAIN, and watch this video of Debra Goldman and Bill Randall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CNiIj-EzeQ
"Racial Diversity Policy"
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 07:03 — g88ky07WOW, so now we call it straight up "racial" do we Calla?
And in the news Monday, Calla Wright shoots up her Cynthia McKinney flare and apparently wants to dangle right out on the fringe, as usual!
It always comes back around to race for some doesn't it. Or for some, they're like that all the time.
sad..........................

Mon, 10/05/2009 - 06:03 — AngelaW"support WCPSS socioeconomic integration and racial diversity policy."
since when does WCPSS have a "racial" diversity policy, wasn't that done away with in 2000?
This is news? Well, I guess
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 05:42 — woodstockThis is news?
Well, I guess there is one bit of news, I suppose, and that is that WCPSS has a "racial diversity policy."
When did that take effect?
Keung, I don't see a reference in the paper today regarding the the SAS EVASS data which shows that WCPSS has systematically discriminated agaisnt low-income and minoity students by putting up barriers to their academic progression and achievement. I find this ommission suspicious, especially considering that Dell Burns and David Holdzkom intentionally hid this data from the public so that it would not be mentioned prior to election day.
It was mentioned in a story
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 06:39 — KeungHui (author)It was mentioned in a story that ran on the front page of Sunday's newspaper. It's kind of hard to get much better play than that.
Yes, it was mentioned in
Mon, 10/05/2009 - 12:27 — woodstockYes, it was mentioned in Sunday's paper below the fold, but not in today's headline story when with the rundown of the school board issues and a restatement of endorsements were given. Also , a key part of the story is why was this information concealed by Burns, Holdzkom and possibly McLaurin. Where is the follow-up with that?
A consistent, subtle, but relevent biasd presentation of the news is the N&O's hallmark. It continues.
